Touts demand €2,000 for 2 Six Nations Ireland v England seats

- BY EAMON DOGGETT news@irishmirror.ie

RUGBY fans are being asked to pay nearly €2,000 to see Ireland play England in the Six Nations next month.

The crazy prices are being charged by ticket resellers Viagogo after the Aviva Stadium clash sold out. The cheapest seats cost at least €690, while a couple of spots on the lowest tier will set you back an eye-watering €1,943.

Fine Gael TD Noel Rock has been lobbying the Government to pass legislation stopping ticket touts. He said: “I have received assurances from the Government that this legislation will be looked at as soon as possible – ideally before the end of January.

“We need to put an end to this scourge of touting where people with access can snap up multiple tickets, corner the market and gouge real fans out of their hard-earned cash.”

It was a similar scenario for last November’s match with the All Blacks when tickets were being flogged for more than €800.

Even Ireland boss Joe Schmidt admitted he couldn’t get his hands on them for friends.

The England clash on February 2 will see Ireland open their Six Nations campaign as defending champions after winning the Grand Slam last year. They are favourites to take the title again.

Schmidt’s side also welcome France to Dublin in another soldout clash on March 10 as rugby fever takes over the country ahead of this year’s World Cup in Japan.
