KATIE Taylor has been crowned the best female boxer in the world in the latest rankings.

The sport’s official record keeper Boxrec make the Bray woman the pound-for-pound queen of the ring.

Taylor was given 38 points by the website, making her not only the best lightweigh­t in the world but top of the tree of all weight divisions.

The 32-year-old has had a rapid rise since turning profession­al in 2016 after a shock quarter-final loss at the Rio Olympics. She holds two of the world titles at lightweigh­t after racking up a sequence of 12 successive victories without defeat.

Last night it was revealed Taylor could add a third belt when she takes on WBO champion Rose Volante in a St Patrick’s weekend bout in Philadelph­ia.

Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn announced the March event in which our girl’s WBA and IBF belts will be on the line.

Brazilian Volante was on the promoter’s wishlist of big fights for 2019 and he also wants Taylor to take on Delfine Persoon and Amanda Serrano

He said: “Every time she fights now the crowd seem to say ‘Wow, wasn’t she incredible?’ You know exactly what you are going to get every time she goes into the ring.” Meanwhile, Taylor’s fans will be able to watch an acclaimed TV documentar­y on the Olympic gold medallist next week.

The programme, titled

Katie, will air on RTE One at 10.15pm on Tuesday after being praised by critics and fans.
