BRENDAN RODGERS insists there will be no spectacular splashing of cash by Celtic this month.
The Parkhead manager is seeking value for money as he looks to bolster his squad for the second half of the campaign.
Celtic broke their transfer record with the £9million purchase of Odsonne Edouard last summer but Rodgers isn’t envisaging a repeat of that in January.
The club has spent £2m on Vakoun Issouf Bayo and snared loan deals for Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah.
Norwegian target Omar Elabdellaoui is rated at £4m and Rodgers admits big splurges are unlikely to be made.
He said: “I don’t think that’s how Celtic works.
“The model of the club is value, and maximising that value and talent, and development and seeing it grow at the club.
“The young players who have come in fit that model.
“My job was to develop that, increase that talent within and, hopefully, they do a great job for Celtic, whether they are loans or a permanent signing.”
Although he’s pleased to have boosted the attacking areas with Bayo, Burke (inset) and Weah, Rodgers is still in the market for more.
He added: “Ideally. I think there are still positions where we would like to get folk in but we needed to improve the squad.
“The second part of the season is about bringing in more offensive threat and options.
“In the first half, you could see that we were not ideal, having to play players out of position.
“These guys support those already there and once we get the injured players back as well that gives us something to look forward to.” MICHAEL CARRICK claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s bubbly personality is bringing the best out of the Manchester United players.
Solskjaer can eclipse Sir Matt Busby’s 73-year record by becoming the first United boss to win his first six games in charge if he can mastermind victory over Tottenham tomorrow.
Solskjaer has transformed United since taking over last month from Jose Mourinho, who had fallen out with virtually everyone when he left, and Carrick says his positive attitude is enthusing the players.
“Ole’s got the kind of personality that rubs off on everybody,” said the United coach. “He’s so positive, so upbeat all the time. I think you can see that rubbing off on individuals and that goes a long way to bringing the best out of the players.”
