STEW LAZY VEGANS!

Healy-rae blasts meat-dodgers as work-shy & hungry

- BY FERGHAL BLANEY Political Correspondent

DANNY Healy-rae made mincemeat out of vegans and vegetarians yesterday when he blasted them for never doing a decent day’s work.

The motor-mouth Kerry TD claimed herbivores are not diligent because they are constantly hungry and should eat more “beef or mutton stew”.

He hit out after Taoiseach Leo Vardakar revealed he was cutting down on red meat.

Mr Healy-rae, who also doesn’t believe in climate change, said: “If there was a shovel put into their hands they’d starve with the hunger because they won’t make it until dinner time.”

A TD has claimed vegans and vegetarians can’t do a decent day’s work because they are constantly hungry.

Rural Independent Group deputy Danny Healy-rae went on the rant as he rubbished comments by Leo Varadkar, who had claimed he was doing his bit for the environment by cutting down on meat.

The Kerry representative – who doesn’t believe in climate change – is urging people to do the opposite and eat more “bacon and cabbage or beef or mutton stew”.

He went further and controversially claimed people who don’t eat meat don’t do a decent day’s work

Mr Healy-rae was speaking on the plinth of Leinster House with his RIG colleagues ahead of the return of the Dail for the first 2019 term yesterday.

He said: “It’s easy to know that fellas who are talking about stopping people eating meat never worked hard.

“Because if you’re a hard worker and do a hard day’s work there’s nothing to bring you back and to revive you again than a piece of good meat, whether it is bacon and cabbage or whether it is beef or mutton stew.” His fellow RIG TD Mattie Mcgrath then chipped in with his own bit of meaty advice: “Bit of steak every now and then too Danny.”

Mr Healy-rae added: “If you don’t have that you won’t rise out the following day and it’s easy to know these people that are suggesting we should give up eating meat, they never did a day’s work.

“If there was a shovel put into their hands they’d starve with the hunger because they won’t make it until dinner time.”

He once again slammed climate change, saying he doesn’t believe human actions or intensive agriculture can influence the weather.

Mr Healy-rae added: “It’s people suggesting they can actually control the weather or change the weather situation, that’s where they’re wrong and I don’t agree with that. “It is ridiculous to think people should stop eating meat to change or protect the weather. Ridiculous.”

Mr Varadkar was asked how he planned to lead by example and reduce his carbon footprint this year.

He said: “I am trying to eat less meat both for health reasons and for reasons of climate change.
