FRESH attempts to free twisted murderer Molly Martens and her killer dad Tom have sparked outrage. Relatives have set up a Facebook campaign page and claimed the pair did not receive a fair trial. Supporters of Jason

Corbett, left, beaten to death in the US, branded it “disgusting”.

THE family of father and daughter murderers Tom and Molly Martens have set up a Facebook page claiming they did not receive a fair trial over the death of Jason Corbett.

The account “Free Tom And Molly Martens” was created on January 24 and there is also a Twitter profile with the same name.

Both were set up by Tom’s brother-inlaw Mike Earnest and other members of the convicted killers’ immediate family.

Mr Corbett, 39, was found with fatal head injuries at the home he shared with his second wife Molly in Walburg, North Carolina, on August 2, 2015.

Ms Martens, 34, and her 68-year-old father Tom, a retired FBI agent, were convicted of the second-degree murder.

Mr Corbett’s young children Jack and Sarah – whose mother died of an asthma attack in 2006 – were in the house at the time of his death and they now live with his sister Tracey Lynch and her husband Dave in Limerick.

The “Free Tom And Molly Martens” Facebook page has been receiving hundreds of critical comments since it was set up last month.

One person posted: “Molly and Tom are vicious murderers who haven’t got enough conscience to admit their guilt and do their time. Two little children left orphans because these two thought and was bludgeoned to death with a paving stone kept on Ms Marten’s night stand. An aluminium youth baseball bat was also used up to 12 times by Mr Martens, who claimed it was used to get Jason to release his stranglehold on his daughter.

The father and daughter claim they had acted in self defence.

In one of the posts on the Free Tom And Molly page the pair’s family say, “Here are the facts: One night while Tom and his wife were visiting Molly and her family, Tom heard sounds of a struggle.

“He found Jason strangling Molly. When Jason refused to stop and shouted he was going to kill Molly, Tom intervened. Jason died in the struggle.”

Another post claims: “The truth matters. An outrageous fiction that has been floated for some time is that Jason Corbett was planning to leave Molly and return to Ireland with the children.

“That’s not true. No evidence was presented at trial to support this fantasy.”

Documents have been lodged by North Carolina state prosecutors in response to the appeals by the Martens against their convictions.

The State case is the father and daughter fabricated the self-defence story to explain Mr Corbett’s murder.

The outcome of the Court of Appeals ruling is expected in several months.

If the pair fail to win a retrial, their only option is the supreme court.
