Judge Julian loved Cliona’s sexy samba as she channels Shakira
WATCH out Shakira! Country music singer Cliona Hagan was awarded the first 10 points of the season for a sexy samba.
Dancing With The Stars judge Loraine Barry compared her to a Colombian pop superstar and said: “Shakira, eat your heart out.”
The 29-year-old performed with Vital Kozmin to Taki Taki by DJ Snake and judge Julian Benson described her as “a super sassy maneater samba girl” and awarded her 10 points.
The Co Tyrone woman sent temperatures soaring on switch-up week where the celebrity dancers were taken out of their comfort zone and were paired with new partners.
They got an impressive 28 points from the judges. The first new couple to dance was former rugby player Peter Stringer and Valeria
Milova who performed a cha cha cha to Body by Loud Luxury featuring Brando.
Peter said: “That was energetic, I loved it, it was a change from what I was doing.”
Loraine told him: “The steps are there, the movement around the floor is there but there is one major ingredients missing, it’s the hips.” They scored 16.
Young Offenders actress Demi Isaac Oviawe danced a Charleston to Wings by Little Mix with her new partner Robert Rowinski.
Judge Brian said: “I thought it was more caterpillar than butterfly, there was not any charleston in this, there was no swivel in the feet.” They scored a total of from the judges. Comedian Fred Cooke and Emily Barker danced an entertaining paso doble to Y Viva Espana by Black Lace.
Fred said: “It was great this week with Emily, we took a lot of coffee breaks.”
Brian added: “I did enjoy parts of it, the standing parts were pretty good, some of the movements made me feel air sick with all the stomping around.”
He scored 14 from the judges. Taking last week’s comments on board, actor Johnny Ward and Ksenia Zsikhotska danced a traditional and lively quickstep to Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet.
Julian commented: “You have massive potential and you could be a star performer,
well done.”
They scored 19 from the judges.
Legendary GAA footballer Denis Bastick hit the floor with his new partner Giulia Dotta and the pair jived to Great Balls Of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis.
Julian commented: “Goodness gracious great balls of Bastick, there was so much jive content in that routine, you delivered those kicks and flicks, nice drunken sailors, you looked like you enjoyed yourself for one.” They scored 21.
Fair City actor Clelia Murphy and John Nolan did an energetic quickstep to Kylie Minogue’s
Stop Me From Falling.
Judge Brian said: “It was all in there, the head positioning needs some work but apart form that a great quickstep.”
They scored 24 from the judges.
TV presenter Mairead
Ronan and Kai Widdrington did a sultry salsa to Dance Again to Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull.
Julian said: “That’s how you do switch-up week girl. From the moment the tracks started you had me, you were on fire, the power, the energy, the lifts.
“I saw the dancer, it was fantastic, you had so much to deal with, this was the best dance of switch up yet.
Brian added: “I was wondering for weeks if you could do Latin or not tonight you proved that you’re on your way to become a luscious Latin lady this week. “You need to believe that you can do Latin, well done.” They scored a total of 26 from the panel. Last night the class of 2018 returned to Dancing With The Stars to support this year’s celebrities.
GAA pundit Marty Morrissey was keeping last year’s Marty Party going, saying: “It’s fantastic there was seven out of the 11 of us here tonight we didn’t want to rain on their parade but we said we had to support the 2019 group.”
Asked whether he had any words of advice for the celebs this year, he added: “I was saying to Demi that I thought she was brilliant, a great character and she is only 18.
“I think I have the record of the lowest ever vote on Dancing With The Stars.
“You have just got to listen – we got good advice from the judges.”
