PRIDE BACK IN TYRONE SHIRT AFTER COMEBACK: HAMPSEY

- BY FRANCIS MOONEY

A STIRRING comeback at Hyde Park has restored pride in the Red Hand jersey claims Padraig Hampsey.

Tyrone came from seven points behind to earn a draw with Roscommon and that first point of the 2019 NFL campaign lifts them off the bottom of Division One.

“The massive thing was putting pride back in the Tyrone jersey. People travel all around the country to watch us and we said before we went out that we had to play with pride and I think we showed that,” said Hampsey (left). “We could have been going into our next game with no points at all but this point was a positive. The boys dug deep and we grinded out a draw.

“We pushed forward in the second half and could have nicked it.

“It was a game of two halves and we showed great steal to come back and get the draw.”

Tyrone’s strike rate continues to be a problem, and they have struggled to craft and execute scores, with Darren Mccurry the only attacker to score a point from play last Sunday.

“We have been working at training over this past number of weeks on our forward play. We feel it is starting to come together and it is nothing to worry about,” stressed Hampsey. “Hopefully after the break it will come together. We have plenty of depth and lads coming back in.”
