Higgins in plea on UK relations
PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins yesterday called for the “warm relationship” between Ireland and the UK to survive whatever the outcome of Brexit.
In a speech in Liverpool, he also praised the Prince of Wales’ commitment to Anglo-irish relations
He paid tribute to the “unique, optimistic outlook and natural warmth” of the city.
Mr Higgins and his wife Sabina renewed their friendship with Charles and Camilla when they visited Liverpool University’s Institute of Irish Studies.
He said: “We cannot deny we are on the cusp now of a potentially seismic shift in the commercial relationships of Ireland and Britain.
“We must together face the uncertainty and endeavour to ensure the warm relationship, built on ties of family will endure.”
