Will you be my Valenshrine?

- BY AOIFE MOORE

A ROMANTIC couple went on a date with a difference ahead of February 14 – at the shrine of St Valentine.

Emer Duffy and Killian Casey were blessed by Bishop Denis Nulty in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Relics of the saint are interred in the chapel and are venerated by worshippers.

The newly-engaged couple, from Rathfarnam, South Dublin, are just one of many expected to visit the shrine to mark the most romantic day of the year.

Emer said: “There’s a lovely ceremony in here.

“We knew Valentine was here when we came for Mass and saw the notice and put ourselves forward for it.

“It’s lovely to get the blessing, it’ll be a nice thing to remember.

Killian added: “We go to Mass here, and we got the opportunity to get the blessing and it just fit for us.”

Killian proposed to Emer at a restaurant in Spain last October.

The couple – who share many interests including

GAA, history, culture, travel and family – have set a date and are getting married in June 2020.
