Survey shows a ‘very high’ trust in Garda

THE public’s trust in the Garda remains “very high”, research has revealed.

However, there has been a decrease in the perception the force treats everyone fairly.

The public attitudes survey, conducted in the final quarter of 2018, showed 89% of the public had a mid-to-high level of trust in the service.

Around 70% of respondents believed gardai in their area could be relied upon when needed.

More than one-third said community relations with the force were poor, while 40% believed gardai were not dealing with things that mattered.
