Bungling Valencia chiefs shocked to discover on loan defender ban from TWO years ago

-

CELTIC’S injury-hit Euro rivals Valencia will land in Glasgow today without another star man after the Spanish giants FORGOT new boy Facundo Roncaglia was banned for tomorrow’s last 32 clash.

The La Liga men have already suffered several blows with £10m striker Santi Mina the latest to be ruled out out the Parkhead clash after limping off in Sunday’s draw with Real Sociedad.

Former Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista is also crocked while Spain forward Rodrigo Moreno has been left behind as manager Marcelino admitted the frontman is knackered after a brutal run of fixtures.

Valencia were already struggling for bodies before being dropped a bombshell over Roncaglia’s elegibility as beaks broke the news the on-loan Celta Vigo ace has two matches left of a previous suspension still hanging over him from two seasons ago.

Roncaglia will be forced to sit out both matches against the

Hoops – despite revealing he was relishing the chance to square up with Celts.

The 32-year-old was snapped up on loan in the January window and made his home debut against Sociedad on Sunday. But the Argentinian defender was shocked to discover he was out of the tie after being reminded he copped a four-match in the Europa League two seasons ago after a clash with Manchester United. Roncaglia was sent off at Old Trafford after a flashpoint with Utd star Eric Bailly just three minutes after he’s grabbed an equaliser in the second leg. UEFA slapped him with an extra two games for violent conduct – which will now be served over the next fortnight. Meanwhile, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has reminded his team that patience is a virtue that could be key in their tie with Valencia.

Valencia have proved a tough nut to crack this season, losing less Laliga games than Real Madrid and only losing twice in the Champions League – both against Juventus – despite finishing third in their group.

The Parkhead faithful will be roaring their favourites on when Celtic resume their European campaign tomorrow night but Rodgers wants his men to take lessons from their 2-1 win over RB Leipzig in the group stages.

“Patience is part of the game,” Rodgers said.

“That’s the understanding of the game. You’re playing against good teams. Valencia have only lost four times all season in one of the biggest leagues in Europe.

“It’s about respecting that the opponent is a good side.

“It’s up to us to ensure we go and deliver a game and an intensity in our game that gives the supporters that hope.

“The Leipzig game was a wonderful demonstration of that, where we played really well in the game.”
