DNA hopes rise at mum & baby home
Geoffrey Shannon HOPES have been raised of taking DNA samples at a mother and baby home site, a campaigner said yesterday.
Dr Geoffrey Shannon is examining legal options to secure potential profiles.
He will provide a report and terms of reference to Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone within eight weeks.
Tuam Home Survivors Network secretary Breeda Murphy said: “It is another step forward and we’re encouraged.
“Time is of the essence. Our survivors are aged anywhere from 60 to 80 and they need answers.
“They need to have the opportunity to be reunited with family even after their death in the event that DNA can be stored.”
