Tragic man ‘lunged at’ kill accused
Charlie Mccarthy AN Irishman who was killed with a screwdriver in Australia “lunged” at his alleged murderer in a fight, a court heard yesterday.
Dad-of-two Charlie Mccarthy, 32, died in Perth in December 2017 when the tool Andrew Doan was holding pierced his temple.
Doan’s friend Tien Vu Huynh said a fight broke out after the two Asian men were offended by an alleged racial comment.
Doan, 35, who is charged with murder, claims he accidentally pierced the Cork man’s brain.
He told the Supreme Court of Western Australia after Mr Mccarthy lunged, he raised his arm forgetting he was holding a screwdriver. When he opened his eyes the victim was on the ground.
