Ireland first for 5G after €300m plan

PLANS for a €300million nationwide rollout of highspeed broadband were announced yesterday.

The move will make Ireland the first European country to offer 5G internet.

Telecoms firm Imagine confirmed a total of 155 broadband transmissi­on sites will be live by June.

Imagine’s Sean Bolger said: “As an Irish company, we are delighted to announce this significan­t investment and a new approach.

“It will finally deliver much-needed fast and reliable high-speed broadband to homes, businesses and communitie­s across regional and rural Ireland.”
