EXPENSIVE TRON-SPORT

-

It sounds like a robot from a sci-fi film but the e-tron is Audi’s new pure electric SUV. Deliveries of the new car start in April. Both prices pitch the Audi above Jaguar’s stunning I-pace.

The e-tron uses a 95kwh battery – located in the floor beneath the passenger compartment – which powers two motors, one on each axle. Combined, they have an output of 300kw which gives the e-tron a top speed of 124mph and acceleration from 0-62mph in 5.7 secs. Much more important than top speed and tyre smoking ability is range. Audi quotes up to 241 miles.

I’ll be interested to see how far the car will actually go when we get one in to test. JLR is launching a high performance version of its stunning Velar. You might have expected the company’s SVR badge would go on the back of a vehicle that’s powered by a 550bhp supercharged V8 engine – but the super hot Velar is actually being called the Velar Svautobiography Dynamic Edition. Bit of a gobful eh? This luxury SUV features uprated brakes, 21ins forged alloy wheels and bespoke suspension, as well as a top speed of 170mph, 0-60mph in 4.3sec and truly scary fuel consumption.
