Fans shunted off into sidings

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

FOOTBALL supporters’ groups are being snubbed in discussions over a new Fans’ Fare travel scheme.

The Department for Transport is talking to the Premier League, British Transport Police and Rail Delivery Group about plans to lower the cost of matchday travel.

But, crucially, the Government are not consulting those people directly affected by the cost of matchday train fares in Britain.

Labour’s Shadow Sports Minister Rosena Allin-khan MP said: “The Government must ensure fans are part of the conversation. For two years, we have been pushing for a scheme for fans who travel by train.

“For too long, fans have missed out on the cheapest trains tickets when fixtures are rearranged for television.

“Fans will be angry that the DFT have left them out of discussions.”
