IN DEFENCE OF THE ARMY

- BY PAT NOLAN

COLIN FENNELLY was wide of the mark in his comments on life in the army, says Andrew O’shaughnessy.

The former Limerick hurler is a captain in the Defence Forces and insists he’s got a lot out of his army career despite Fennelly (left) saying there was “no job satisfaction” with “nothing to do”.

The Kilkenny hurler left the army last year and spoke of how his new job as a project manager was more rewarding, though he was widely criticised for his comments.

O’shaughnessy said: “I think he made a mistake, prime example of microphone being stuck in front of you, he gave his answer and then the follow on question didn’t come from the reporter and then he felt the need to fill that space.

“You get out of the army what you put into it. Eoin Larkin is a perfect example, Paul Murphy is another. Colin got a lot out of it, but I don’t think he sees it that way.”
