Foden opens up on his split from Saturdays singer Una
RUGBY player Ben Foden has revealed cheating on Irish singer Una Healy was not the only reason behind their divorce.
The couple, who wed in Tipperary in 2011, split last July following claims he had been unfaithful while she was pregnant with their second child.
Ben, 33, said: “At the moment anything that’s published about me is never very good, and pretty rightly so because I was the one who committed adultery.
“But at the same time, it wasn’t the only reason for our divorce to go through.
“It’s not ideal but we’re very amicable, we’re getting through it, we’re not the first people in the world to get divorced.
“We’ve got two little kids we adore.”
The former England full-back, who moved to America after signing with Rugby United New York, said he struggles being away from Aoife Belle, six, and four-year-old Tadhg, who live with their mother in Tipperary.
Ben told The Guardian: “It’s hard because I’m away from my son and daughter. But I know they’re in a great and loving environment with Una because she’s a great mum. We never argue about that.”
And he said there was an innocent explanation behind his profile on internet dating site Bumble, which was published in a newspaper.
Ben added: “I’ll tell you the real story behind that.
“I picked up Una from the airport a couple of weeks after we’d first been here and we were sort of joking about dating.
“So I loaded up Bumble and we did the profile together, joking around.
“And then I realised something dodgy was going on with it and the next day it was all over the paper.
“It’s not ideal but at least I can laugh about it and especially so with Una.
“If she hadn’t known about it I can see it would have been a bit of a knife in the back.
“But we were messing around, so we can laugh and she can call me a bit of an idiot.”
Una, 37, had planned to move stateside with Ben and the kids before the cheating allegations emerged.
But The Saturdays singer has moved on and found new love with Limerick hurler David Breen.
She has been recently posting loved-up pics with her new man while on holiday in Mauritius.
Along with a picture of a love heart, she shared a photo on Instagram of a beach along with what is believed to be the couple’s silhouette.
Una has also set male pulses racing by posting revealing snaps of herself in a bikini on the beach.
