We must end club final relic
THIS weekend we have the eagerly anticipated club semi finals to look forward to.
Corofin take on Gweedore while Dr Crokes face Mullinalaghta, in a couple of mouth-watering ties – but how stupid is it clubs and players have had to wait 10 or 11 weeks to play these games?
In these busy times, when a person’s own time is so limited and precious, it’s just another example of modern day GAA madness.
Corofin’s Kieran Fitzgerald, the highly regarded former Galway star, put it brilliantly the other day when he said, “It’s crazy...if you had someone from another sporting body and you explained to them that these guys are training for 60-70 days for one game, they’d think it was mad’.
Let’s be honest, the St Patrick’s
Day final concept is a played-out relic.
Why, in this day and age, would glaring common sense not just prevail and the club showpiece be brought forward to a date that suits everyone?
