The unsung heroes of football deserve a medal

I HAVE to mention two unsung Gaelic football heroes this week.

Two whole-heartedly committed players who achieved a fabulous milestone last weekend when they played for the 100th time for their respective counties. Those men are Ryan Jones of Fermanagh and Benny Kavanagh – better known as BK Woodcraft – of Carlow. When you think of the counties they play for and, with respect, the fact that they’ve had very little silverware to aim for, it makes it all the more incredible to have such commitment, heart and desire to keep fighting for the cause day, in day out.

They have done so with little or no fuss and, without doubt, these guys are the real heroes of the inter-county game.
