NO MANN TOOK IT EASY RELEGATION WARM-UP

- BY PAT NOLAN

Galway Dublin Tomorrow, Salthill, 2pm (TG4 deferred)

PADRAIC MANNION insists Galway didn’t take Carlow for granted as they look to get back to winning ways against Dublin.

The 2017 All-ireland champions were held to a shock draw at Netwatch Cullen Park last Sunday week, though it’ll make little difference to their progression in the competition with no promotion at stake this year and a quarter-final berth all but assured.

“No, we didn’t take that game for granted at all,” said Mannion (above). “People looking from the outside assume you do because we didn’t win it. But we’re long enough around to know that any League game is tough.”

Dublin are now managed by Galway man Mattie Kenny, who was part of their managerial set up when they reached the 2012 All-ireland final. Mannion worked with him at under-21 level and said: “Some of the Galway lads have had experience with him a few years ago. And obviously there’s the success he brought to Cuala.

“So he’s a great manager and a great coach, and I’ve no doubt that he’ll bring them another few steps.”

WITH a combined scoring difference of -65 after two games played each, there’s every chance Laois and Offaly will meet again in a relegation play-off.

Both managers have had their hand seriously weakened by players not committing to the cause.

Kevin Martin (above), along with his coach Damian Fox, knows the club scene well in Laois having managed in the county and Offaly scored a comfortable win over them in last year’s League.

Offaly had far better form and momentum then, however, and Laois, playing at home in O’moore Park, get the nod to earn their first victory.
