DWIGHT AND WRONG

Furious Moore fuelled up by Gayle ban

- BY JAMES NURSEY

DARREN MOORE reckons West Brom’s sense of injustice will fire them up for today’s derby after hitting out at Dwight Gayle’s ban for diving.

Promotion-chasing Albion are without 16-goal top scorer Gayle at neighbouring Aston Villa.

He was charged by the FA with ‘successful deception of a match official’.

Gayle went down under pressure from Alexander Milosevic and Yohan Benalouane in the 89th minute of the clash with Nottingham Forest.

Referee Lee Mason awarded a penalty which Jay Rodriguez converted for a point in Tuesday’s 2-2 Championship draw.

Albion must now do without banned Gayle, on loan from Newcastle, for their next two games and Baggies boss Moore said: “We feel disappointed about it.

“We stand by Dwight. He has such a wonderful energy and really likes the football club.

“He has moved into the area and put his life and soul into the club. You see that in his game and he is really disappointed to be accused of something which is far from what he is.

“The boy just likes to play and scores goals. That is why we as a football club stand firmly by him.

“We are a club that work with him on a day-to-day basis and understand what he brings to us.

“He is part of the family and when one gets hurt, we all hurt together. But we are not a oneman team because we have worked and operated without Dwight before this season. We will have to do the same again.”

Moore is predicting a “pulsating battle” at Villa Park, which is four miles from The Hawthorns.

He has appealed for cool heads and knows Albion’s former Villa captain Gareth Barry, 37, can be relied upon.

Moore added: “Gareth is the ultimate professional. He has been absolutely superb.”
