First Night Review

9 to 5 The Musical, Savoy Theatre, London,

- by Ed Gleave

IT’S been almost 40 years since 9 To 5 hit cinemas. but if Metoo taught us anything, it’s there are still plenty of sexist bosses around and employees who’d love to string them up. So watching three long-suffering women get their own back on nasty Mr Hart (brian Conley) is just as satisfying in 2019. The heroines were played by Caroline Sheen, Natalie Mcqueen and Amber Davies – and they all held their own. but bonnie Langford steals the show as jobsworth Roz, doing great slapstick comedy.

This isn’t a lazy jukebox musical either, so don’t expect all of Dolly’s hits. Apart from the title track, it’s new songs she wrote just for this show.

And it is packed with laughs as big as Dolly’s, erm, personality.
