Airlines need ‘cooling off’ period online

- By AAKANKSHA SURVE

Catherine Noone AIRLINES have been urged to implement a “cooling off ” period similar to online shopping.

Fine Gael’s Catherine Noone said: “Airline companies such as Ryanair and Aer Lingus don’t allow their customers to cancel bookings and receive a full refund – even 24 hours following the booking.

“Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive, which applies to people shopping online, consumers have the right to a 14-day ‘cooling off period’, whereby they can cancel the contract for any reason and not incur any penalties or fees.”

Ms Noone criticised the small print used by airlines to deny refunds calling it “deliberately dense, long and confusing”.
