‘There is no going back on building kids hospital’

- BY AAKANKSHA SURVE

Simon Harris SIMON Harris has claimed there could be “no going back” on the building of the National Children’s Hospital.

The Health Minister added the Government will not be re-tendering for the job which is estimated to cost taxpayers €2billion.

There were calls last week for Mr Harris to resign after the potential cost of the project emerged.

But he said he hasn’t considered resigning and added: “Accountability was not about walking away.”

Mr Harris said any course of action suggested by the PWC report into the massive overspend would be taken seriously by Government officials.

He denied Leo Varadkar’s comments in the Dail last Tuesday on “one or two” contractors never getting State contracts again referred to BAM Ireland who was involved in the building of the site.

He told the Marian Finucane Show on RTE One: “The Taoiseach made very clear in his statement he wasn’t talking about any particular company and the record of the Dail shows that.

“No one is blaming anyone here, what people are saying, including the Taoiseach, is there is an inquiry, can we let it look into the issues and see where it brings us.”
