A TERRIER is lucky to be alive after she got under the bonnet of her neighbour’s car and was transported 50 miles across three counties.

Keysha slipped out of the house of owner Robert Berrill in Slane, Co Meath, on Thursday and somehow got into the vehicle.

She wasn’t discovered until the car owner opened the bonnet on Saturday in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

Mr Berrill is unsure how she managed to get in the vehicle without being seen and also how she survived the heat from the engine on the long journey.

He said: “I kind of blamed myself as she slipped out the door behind my back so I must have left the door open.

“It’s not the first time she has done it but she has never been gone for such a length of time.”

Mr Berrill took to Facebook in a desperate bid to try and locate Keysha but despite thousands of likes to his posts there was no sighting of her.

One local couple even took trained sniffer dogs out to find his pooch.

However, on Saturday morning his neighbours called to say they had discovered Keysha underneath the bonnet of their car.

Mr Berrill said: “It was the best phone call I ever received as I’d given up hope.

“But now we are still trying to figure out how it all happened.

“We think she must have been around the place for a few days then hopped into the car when they were doing some work to the engine, but nobody is sure.

“Once the bonnet was closed even if she was barking you wouldn’t hear her over the noise.

“I guess it doesn’t matter really as what’s important is she is home safe and sound.”
