I wanted to reply to the lady who’s devastated that her partner has revealed he no longer wants children after previously telling her he did (Dear Coleen, February 6).

I was in a relationship where my ex had children from a previous relationship, but told me he wanted more. After a year he admitted he didn’t actually want more kids and I was devastated.

I pushed my feelings aside and convinced myself I could be a stepmother to his children and be happy with that. I also secretly hoped he would change his mind.

A few more years went by and nothing changed, and I knew I had to end the relationship if I wanted children of my own. It was scary starting again in my 30s, but I’m now very happy with someone else and a mother of twins! Name and address withheld
