RAMOS: A RED FOR 19th TIME

-

SERGIO RAMOS was sent off for the second time in five days as REAL MADRID’S unhappy knack for losing to lower La Liga table opposition resurfaced at the Bernabeu.

Unlike in Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Ajax, there was nothing suspicious about the two yellow cards Ramos (above) received in yesterday’s embarrassing 2-1 defeat by GIRONA.

Ramos was booked for handball when he conceded the 65th-minute penalty which enabled Cristhian Stuani to cancel out Casemiro’s headed opener.

Then, with Real trailing to Portu’s diving header, central defender Ramos was cautioned again in the dying minutes for catching Pedro Alcala as he attempted an overhead kick in the Girona area.

It was the 19th red card of Ramos’ colourful career.

What will irritate Real is that Girona were so out of form they had not won in their previous 10 games, stretching back to November.

It meant that Real remain third in La Liga, a distant nine points behind Barcelona and two points adrift of their cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid.

LAZIO slipped up in Serie A when a stoppage-time goal saw them beaten 2-1 at GENOA.

Milan Badelj put the Roman club in front in the first half before Antonio Sanabria levelled 15 minutes from time.

But worse was to follow for Lazio three minutes into added time when Domenico Criscito struck the winner.

With AC MILAN beating ATALANTA 3-1 on Saturday, it meant that Lazio fell four points behind Milan, who now occupy the final Champions League position in fourth place.

In Holland, former Southampton favourite Dusan Tadic scored twice as AJAX moved within four points of leaders PSV EINDHOVEN with a 5-0 thumping of NAC BREDA.
