Slang can tip off parents to online abuse
PARENTS have been told to wise up to internet slang so they can protect kids from grooming and abuse.
A list of more than 200 acronyms and hashtags includes LMIRL for “let’s meet in real life”, ana, meaning anorexia and sue for suicide.
And police in the UK have warned mums and dads need to understand their meaning.
A spokesman said: “It can seem like teenagers are speaking a different language and, while it’s tempting to try and keep them from interacting online, it’s as much a part of their life as eating.
“Instead, you should make sure you’re aware of the risks.”
