Growth is steady MORE than 50,000 homes were bought last year – half of the number snapped up at the height of the boom, a study revealed yesterday.

The report showed a slow but steady growth in Ireland’s property market, with an increase of just 8% on the previous year.

Excluding mortgages there were almost 25,000 homes purchased with cash or savings last year, the quarterly Consumer Market Monitor figures showed.

Report author prof Mary Lambkin said: “The property market’s sluggish growth does not reflect the large increase in the working population and the rate of new household formation over the past five years.” When you don’t need to compete for the spotlight, it is sometimes best to avoid getting caught in its glare…

Especially when your dress may have committed more fashion sins than anything since the moment Adam and Eve put on fig leaves.

If Kim Kardashian had been at the Oscars, that might have been her redemption. But this was Sunday’s Hollywood Beauty Awards – which no one who wasn’t at the Hollywood Beauty Awards has ever heard of.

Let’s face it, when you’re Kim Kardashian, there is no need for such desperate measures. This vintage Thierry Mugler number not only does not look nice – it looks actually painful.

When Nicole Scherzinger is less eccentrically dressed than you, Kim, it’s officially time to worry. LOUIS Walsh has revealed he “hates” when fellow Ireland’s Got Talent judge Jason Byrne makes out he knows about music.

The 66-year-old, who has managed pop acts including Westlife and Boyzone, said the comedian wouldn’t be able to tell if a musician is talented or not.

Louis added: “Jason is a comedian. But I hate when he pretends he knows everything about music.

“He told someone, ‘Oh you’re a great guitar player.’ He wouldn’t know if someone is a good guitar player or not, so I wasn’t letting him away with it.

“We’re just being us, having an opinion. He knows about comedy. I know about music. End of story.”

The Mayo man isn’t afraid to say what’s on his mind, even if that could cause upset. Louis added: “I’ve said loads of things in the past about lots of people, slagged them all off. But at the time that’s the way I felt about them. I can change.

“I prefer to have an opinion than be bland and boring and say everyone was nice because not everyone is nice.”

Speaking in this week’s RTE Guide, Louis revealed his upcoming autobiography will be particularly scathing.

The former X Factor judge hasn’t started penning his life story yet but he said he won’t be holding back when he finally does begin.

He added: “It will roast quite a few people and tell the truth about people.” Louis Walsh spoke about Jason Byrne in the RTE Guide, right
