HARRIS FUMES AT BEES’ STINGER

- BY SIMON BIRD

MARCELO BIELSA has warned Leeds are facing their “worst moment of the season” with the campaign on the brink of being wasted if they fail to go up.

United surrendered momentum in the race for automatic promotion, losing to the team with the worst away record in the Football League.

The agonies of this fiercelyfought race for Premier League riches reached new heights for Bielsa, trying to end United’s 15year wait to return to the top flight.

As Sheffield United surged into second by beating Nottingham Forest in the noon kick-off, Bielsa’s men flopped.

It was a freak result. Leeds has

Da Silva 20 77 per cent possession, 36 shots and 15 corners, but had only Patrick Bamford’s early opener to show for all their pressure.

Wigan, playing with 10 men for 75 minutes, had two efforts on target – and Gavin Massey scored with both.

Bielsa (right) said: “This is the worst moment of the season. It is a wound that will only heal if we get promotion. The season will mean nothing if we don’t go up.

“You have games like today that you don’t deserve to win, but you have to win. The result seriously condemns my work.”

Brilliant Wigan keeper Christian Walton saved a penalty, made countless diving blocks and punched clearances,

and his defence put threw their bodies at everything to bolster their survival hopes.

No wonder tempers boiled in the sun. Sam Morsy was pelted with coins as he lay injured on the byline late in the second half. Ref Scott Duncan was made aware and collected evidence, leaving the home side facing punishment.

It’s Brentford away on Monday for Leeds and Bielsa said: “What we have done so far it not enough. We need more effort in times of weakness. It is my responsibility.” Pablo Hernandez was left to rue his penalty miss after Cedric Kipre was ruled to have deflected away with his arm and saw red. Replays later suggested it was his gut. “People will be baffled why we are struggling at the bottom after seeing that performance,” said Wigan coach Paul Cook. Henrik Dalsgaard. Lions boss Neil Harris was annoyed at his side’s inability to break down the 10 men and the frequency with which some Brentford players tumbled theatrically to the ground.

Harris said: “I was a bit appalled by some things I saw. Some of the play-acting was quite comical.”

Millwall went ahead through Lee Gregory but

Josh Dasilva levelled. Bees boss Thomas Frank said: “It was a beautiful goal from Josh, he has a great left foot.”
