BELFAST TO PALMA FLIGHT ‘LIKE BOOZY NIGHT AT PUB’

- BY SARAH SCOTT

A PASSENGER has claimed a flight from Belfast to Palma was “like being in a noisy bar on a Friday night”.

The man, who spoke about his experience yesterday to the BBC’S Stephen Nolan, said some passengers were “obviously drunk” when they got on the plane and some struggled to walk.

The flight left Belfast International Airport last week but was met by police when it landed in Spain following disruption on board.

The disgruntled passenger told the Radio Ulster show he and his wife were going to get off the flight before it left due to the condition of some of the passengers already, but were assured by staff on the easyjet flight that they would be adhering to their policy of one drink per customer.

In a statement, the airline said it did Flight was headed to Spain stick to this guideline but there was “evidence of passengers drinking their own alcohol on board during this flight”.

Speaking on The Nolan Show, the man added: “The plane took off, and the minute the seatbelt sign was switched off and the drinks trolley came out, was just a free for all.

“The drinks trolley at the back of the plane never got away from the back of the plane so people were just walking down to it like a bar as such.”

In a statement, the carrier said: “Like all other airlines easyjet has strict guidelines about the consumption of alcohol on board, any passenger who appears to be under the influence of alcohol will be refused further alcohol. These guidelines were adhered to on this flight and only one drink per passenger was served.

“The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyjet’s priority.” it
