Petr: I’ll be professional before I Cech into Blues

- BY JOHN CROSS

PETR CECH will remain “professional” even though he could make an immediate return to opponents Chelsea after the Europa League Final.

The Arsenal keeper (above), who is due to retire at the end of the season, has been offered a technical role by his old club which could put him in a strange position in Baku next Wednesday.

It will be desperately disappointing for Cech, 37, that news of his switch has come out now, but Gunners boss Unai Emery is set to stick with him ahead of Bernd Leno.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri insisted that it would not be difficult for Cech to face his potential future employers. He said: “I don’t like to speak about an Arsenal player because, at the moment, he is a professional player.

“He has to play for Arsenal until the end of June, so I want to respect the player and the club.

And Arsenal. I don’t want to speak about Cech in this moment.”

Sarri did express his disappointment about Ruben Loftus-cheek suffering a serious Achilles injury on Chelsea’s end-of-season game in Boston.

The midfielder would have started in Baku and Sarri had been outspoken against the friendly.

Sarri said: “In Boston, the pitch was really not very good. But in an injury like that, there isn’t only one reason. Probably there are a lot of reasons. So we cannot say the only reason is the pitch.

“You know very well my opinion about Loftus. He was able to become a very important player for us, especially in an open match. In the space, he’s really very useful for us. So I’m disappointed.

“But it’s useless to continue to speak about him. I’m sure he will return stronger and will become one of Europe’s best midfielders.”
