Redding can spoil party for Farmer

KEITH FARMER topped the Bennetts British Superbike Championship timesheets at Donington Park yesterday – but faces a stiff challenge from ex-motogp star Scott Redding today.

Tyco BMW’S Farmer set the fastest time of 1min 6.475secs in the final few minutes of yesterday’s second free practice, beating the time set by Redding earlier in the day.

“That wasn’t what I was expecting at all, I’ve been aiming solely for top-10s this year so far,” said the Northern Irishman.

“I just did loads of laps, 32 altogether and my quickest came from that.

“We’ve clearly got good race pace and good tyre life so I’m really, really looking forward to qualifying and racing.”

But one man keen to spoil Farmer’s party today is Redding. The Be Wiser Ducati rider ended third quickest behind team-mate Josh Brookes but admits he’s gunning for a win.

In his first British Superbike season, Redding is coming under pressure from critics to perform but with former experience at Donington Park on the longer track, he knows this weekend’s triple-header is his big chance.

With qualifying this morning followed by the first of three weekend races this afternoon, he believes his first win is in sight.

He said: “I need to win. The last round was different as I had to learn the track but here, I kind of know where I’m going.

“Everything is there, the team’s good, the bike’s good, I’m in great shape.

“This could be a good chance to fight for a win and if not, a podium.”
