Now the former Parkhead keeper says that, if the current group really permanent basis and this could be his final match in charge.

Lennon delivered the league title and, having guided the squad into today’s showpiece at Hampden, Brown said: “He deserves thanks for what he has done this season. “Whether he gets the

job or not, he’s been want to keep Neil Lennon at Parkhead, they have to deliver in similar fashion 24 years later.

Bonner said: “There was so much pressure in that Cup final against Airdrie.

“We hadn’t won anything and we had to do it for fantastic. Not many would’ve come in after Brendan, who had won seven trophies in a row. I don’t think a lot would have said yes right away.

“Lenny took us over the line for eight and now we are in another final. Someone else could have come in and it not worked out as well, but Lenny was brave and answered that Tommy. It wasn’t for us. It was for Tommy and we all wanted to keep him in a job.

“We had lost the league Cup and the likes of myself, Peter Grant and Paul Mcstay, we felt more for the manager than we did call. We owe him a lot. We could have ended up with someone we don’t really know, who would have wanted to change everything.

“He has tried to stick Brendan’s way as much possible. It’s been great.

“Lenny was the one who answered the call. He will always answer Celtic’s call. That was for ourselves. The pressure was huge.

“We just needed to win. It was a horrible game. We didn’t play well and Airdrie were tough to play against.

“It was just the result that mattered. We won it 1-0 and it was just for to as fantastic. He did it in the past when he brought us back to winning ways.”

Brown hopes Lennon can stay in position as he added: “He knows what it’s like to win trophies and he started us on the way to eight in a row.

“Here’s hoping he will be here after we pick this one up, too.” Tommy (right).

“We felt it was all about Tommy and Billy Stark to an extent. If the players really want Neil, then they need to go out and perform for him.
