TJ PLAN A HEAD MELTER!

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

PLAN to shut down scoring machine TJ Reid, and Ballyhale’s other dangermen will have more room to wreak havoc in.

That’s the conundrum facing Borris-ileigh tomorrow.

As Colin Fennelly showed in his man of the match display against Slaughtneil last time out, Ballyhale are far from a one-man band.

“Their six forwards are lethal, three are county and then you have guys that are probably up to that standard, so that’s the challenge,” admitted Brendan Maher.

“But we don’t fear playing these games. We realise that we’re up against a savage team but we’re not going to shy away from it.

“We’ll give them as good a rattle as we can. And if we can overcome it it’s going to be the dream come true.”

On the flip side, Henry Shefflin and Ballyhale will know that if they stop Maher, they have a good chance.

Does Maher think he Ballyhale will have a specific plan to negate him “I don’t know,” said the veteran.

“The decision has to be made whether to put me on TJ (above) or whether he’ll maybe take me where I don’t want to be. With the likes of Colin Fennelly there, we have more than one player to watch.

“And we’d like to think they have more than one player to watch as well, that we have enough of threat to cause them problems without even just thinking about me.

“It’s something we’ll decide on what we want to do, but it may change after a few minutes, and I think that’s the beauty of what we have - we have lads willing to adapt and we’re not set on one team.

“If something’s not working we’ll change and have a go at it and we’re happy to have a go at it.

“That’s one thing Johnny [Kelly] been very good at as well when he’s on the line, he’s very clued-in to adapting and making the sort of changes that might have a big impact on the game.

“So we agree on something to start and see how it goes.”
