..SO I’LL FINISH

Door of Europe in his second stint

- BY

was six months in and felt that we had just started to get a bit of momentum. Now I want to get West Ham talked about in terms of European football regularly, hopefully being in it!

“If we could get talked about in terms of having a good chance of being in the Champions League, the Europa League, that would be an improvement.”

The pressing issue is to steer the club away from relegation danger, and Moyes admits the Hammers need a big second half of the season to keep star talents such as Declan Rice (above).

“He’s shown real talent and in many ways he’s doing an awful lot for the team,” said Moyes. “It’s up to us to show we can add to that. I want more Declan Rices in truth. I don’t want to lose him, I want to add more like him to the club.”

Today’s contest against Everton is Moyes’ fourth match back in charge at West Ham and he would love a home win to celebrate the 10th anniversary of David Sullivan and David Gold taking over as owners.

Critics insist the team have not progressed under their stewardship, but Moyes insists it takes a long time, patience and consistency to move a club forward.

“I remember in my opening four years at Everton we had one good year, one bad, one good, one bad,” he said. “It probably took me that amount of time before it levelled out.

“Nowadays if you have a good year and a bad year there’s a good chance you lose your job in the bad year. You don’t get a chance to fulfil the potential.

“You need people to be strong enough to say, ‘I can see where we’re going’.”

Keeper Lukasz Fabianski is facing several weeks out following a recurrence of the hip injury that previously sidelined him for three months. New signing Darren Randolph is set to deputise against Everton.
