Poldark coast suffers from plastic blight
Emily at Porth Mear
CAMPAIGNERS say a beach which has featured in BBC drama Poldark is being ruined by plastic waste and other rubbish.
Emily Stevenson and dad Rob, who clean beaches in their spare time, recently removed plastics tangled up in abandoned nylon fishing nets, ropes and lobster pots from Porth Mear, near Padstow in Cornwall.
Emily, 22, said: “Porth Mear usually gets all the stuff [rubbish]. People go down there in the summer for beach parties because it’s so inaccessible.”
Meanwhile, environmentalists say the microplastics find in a lake near the top of Snowdon in North Wales is a “scary wake-up call”.
