VETERAN rocker Rod Stewart wants to follow in the footsteps of Elton John and Freddie Mercury... by having a film made of his life.

Sir Rod, 75, reckons Welsh actor Rhys Ifans would be perfect to play him, as long as he can make his lanky hair look like Rod’s famous blond locks.

He said of Rhys, 52, who made his name as scruffy housemate Spike in 1999 hit Notting Hill: “Yeah, Rhys would be a very good idea. [But] he has got to do something with his barnet.”

Last year Sir Elton’s story was told in Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton, while Freddie and his band Queen’s career were put on the big screen in

Bohemian Rhapsody in 2018, which starred Rami Malik as Mercury.

Rod told BBC Radio 2: “Alastair [his son] has offered to play me when I was 14 as there is a remarkable similarity. If it does not happen it does not matter but I would be flattered if it did. “But I tell you what, the Freddie Mercury one was so good. It was rock and roll. It would be hard to get something better than that but

Mike James, 31, said:

“It was weird.”

I would give it a shot.” Three times-married Rod, who has sold more than 120 million records worldwide, went on to admit he was struggling in the lockdown without football.

The Celtic supporter explained: “I never realised how much the game meant to me.

“When the summer came I used to be depressed a little as there was no football but this is absolutely hell.

“I don’t know if the football is going to be coming back. Too many players are frightened and I don’t blame them.”

He added: “I miss work. I am itching to get back.

“I keep in contact with the band and they keep saying ‘see you at the soundcheck.’ but we don’t know when that is going to be.

“I was supposed to tour in July all around the States, can’t see that happening. With luck we may be going to Australia and New Zealand in October.”
