Cops hunt NFL stars over theft

- BY KEITH WEBSTER

TWO NFL players set to earn $5.8million (£4.8m) between them next season are on the run after holding up a card game at gunpoint to steal four watches and a few thousand dollars.

Deandre Baker, a firstround draft pick last year by the New York Giants, and Seattle’s Quinton Dunbar fled the scene near Miami on Wednesday.

Along with an accomplice, the men escaped in a BMW, a Lamborghini and a Mercedes.

Miramar police in south Florida issued warrants for Baker on four counts of armed robbery and four more of aggravated assault with a firearm, and for Dunbar on four counts of armed robbery.

Shortly before midnight, Dunbar, 27, who played for the Washington Redskins at

Wembley four years ago, and Baker, 22, were at a house party, playing video games, cards, and gambling.

At some point an argument erupted at the card table, at which point both Baker and Dunbar allegedly brandished guns and robbed people of money and belongings.

According to a witness a third person also took part in the robbery. That witness claimed that as he walked into the house and the robbery was in progress, Baker directed the third man – in a red mask – to shoot the witness. Instead they took his $18,000 Rolex watch and $800 in cash.

Among other items taken from the victims were $12,000 in cash and watches ranging in value from $600 to $25,000.

Dunbar actually took part in a team conference call with the media the following morning, before the story broke.
