new TV, bikes and my birthday around the corner so I’m having brilliant time.

“And I’ve given up drink and I’ve given up cigarettes. I’m just going to treat it like a retreat.

“I’ve never written so many songs and poetry in my life. At the start I was really is a really panicking, I was really worried and really anxious and I wasn’t sleeping at night.

“It was just a worry what is around the corner because it doesn’t matter what profession you are in, you are always petrified of the unknown and the uncertain. And it was just a nightmare really. But now I’m doing great to be honest.

“I’m just spending time with my family, having great craic and I’m down in the country and I’m loving it.”

Opening up about his decision to ditch the fags and drink after a busy few years on the stage and screen, Johnny explained how it can be hard to refrain while working in the showbiz bubble.

He said: “It was stopping me achieving goals with fitness and stuff like that.

“Last year I thought I was in alright shape, but I just thought if I gave up drinking, if only I gave up cigarettes.

“I’m off cigarettes now for about two months and drink about three weeks but for me that’s great. There has always been a time in my life that I’m doing something, and it is very difficult coming off stage and for example, say in Coppers [The Musical] there’s a prime example.

“You are going and going and bouncing along to Maniac 2000 and you come off the stage and it is very difficult to just go to bed.

“You want to go out and you want to have a few drinks and stuff.

“And so this has just always been something I have always wanted to do, just give it up because I didn’t think I needed to do it.

“I suppose one thing just led to another and any excuse I was looking for, I have nothing on now.”

Larry Bass

DANCING With The Stars boss Larry Bass has revealed talks to determine the future of the hit show will begin next month.

And despite keeping tight-lipped about who could take part, he ruled out approaching Dickie Rock to move his battle with Johnny Logan to the dancefloor due to his age.

Shinawil chief Larry

Bass told the Irish Mirror: “Dancing With The Stars was commissioned before we started last year’s run so we will sit down and engage with RTE in a month or two about what way we will look at that next year and what will restrictions be like then.

FORECAST

“It is very hard for anyone to forecast that, so we gotta let time tick away and see where life resumes and how and what we’ll do.”

As the momentum continues to surround who will be next to don sequins and salsa shoes, the production boss reckons it is too early to consider casting while the whole world is still at a standstill.

He said: “We look forward to casting for 2021 later in the year but it’s not something we can even speculate on at the moment because we don’t know what people are going to be doing.”

And skirting around the recent spat between crooners Dickie, 82, and Johnny, 66, he admitted he can’t see their war of words making it to the dancefloor.

He said: “I won’t comment on any individual name but the one thing I will say is it is unlikely Dickie would be in the frame as this is a show you have to put a lot of work into.

“I don’t know Dickie, so he could be in full health, but it is a significant commitment.”
