Miscarriages ‘raise type 2 diabetes risk’
Clippers bought online could give you nasty shock
WOMEN who suffer miscarriages are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, a study suggests.
Those who had one, two or three miscarriages were respectively 18%, 38% and 71% more at risk.
Scientists say the causes are unclear but it could be due to changes to the immune system or lifestyle caused by pregnancy loss.
Copenhagen University Hospital’s Dr Pia Egerup said: “We cannot rule out distress can initiate lifestyle changes that increase BMI and the risk of type 2.
“However, analysis in which we adjusted for obesity still showed significant association between pregnancy loss and type 2.”
DIY hair on rise
PEOPLE buying clippers to cut their hair during lockdown have been warned about the dangers of dodgy goods sold by third parties through online marketplaces.
Some were being sold without three-pin plugs and with dangerously poor-quality adaptors, risking electric shock or fire.
Home hair removal kits were being sold with plugs that could expose users to the mains supply.
The findings came from Electrical Safety First, which looked at listings of 15 electrical items on Amazon Marketplace, ebay and Wish.com.
Calling for tougher regulation, technical chief Martyn Allen said: “We’d urge consumers to only buy electrical items from reputable retailers.” ebay removed the items and said: “The safety of ebay users is our priority”. Amazon said all products offered on its platform must comply with regulations. Wish said all merchants on its site are “required to adhere to local laws and safety standards”.
