Family plea after thieves steal 10 day old donkey
Family left heartbroken after theft of 10-day-old foal from their farm
A FAMILY has appealed for help after thieves stole a 10-day-old donkey in an overnight snatch.
The foal, called Jessica, and her mum Martha are owned by brother and sister Harry and Daisy Martin.
And the children from Sheeptown, Newry, Co Down, have been left distraught by her disappearance.
Now their mum is asking
Irish Mirror readers to get in touch with any details they have as it is feared the animal may have been taken across the border.
Jessica was stolen on Monday night from the field she was in with her mother at the
Rathfriland Road farm.
CCTV footage of an overnight incident has been shared with police.
The children’s mum Amanda said: “We’re all so shocked and very upset. Jessica was only born 10 days before she was taken from our farm.
“We have searched every inch of our farm which is all enclosed and she’s not here.
“Her mother is in a terrible state, running in circles and baying in distress. So we’re worried for her health because she is so distressed and has so much milk and it’ll make her sick if she can’t nurse her baby.
“The police have enough evidence to confirm she has been stolen and we are offering a reward for her safe return.”
Amanda, who is employed by Iceland, and her husband Geoffrey, a lorry driver, both work on their farm part-time.
She added: “We just want Jessica back safely. Anyone who will take a donkey foal that’s obviously so young can’t know what she needs to survive. She needs her mummy. “I’m pleading with the readers of the Irish Mirror to make our little donkey too hot to handle and share this with everyone you know.”
If you know anything about Jessica’s whereabouts call the PSNI on 101.
