A HUGE “bare knuckle brawl” in a park involving around 50 youngsters made “mothers with their babies run in fear”.

The incident happened in Ringsend Park in the capital at lunchtime on Wednesday.

Sinn Fein TD for Dublin Bay South Chris Andrews has warned those involved the area “will not be held to ransom by these large groups terrorisin­g locals”.

The Irish Mirror understand­s the huge crowd met up for an organised fight with boys and girls of all ages involved.

A witness said: “Ringsend Park was invaded by at least 50 children, boys and girls, who were bare knuckle fighting.

“Gardai arrived quickly and had to literally shout and scream at them to get them to stop and go away.

Mr Andrews added it was only a “miracle that no one was seriously injured” during the fight.

He said: “The gardai managed the situation very well and I have asked them to confiscate the bikes from anyone caught engaging in this sort of behaviour.

“It’s important to remember the public parks are supposed to be for older people and those cocooning between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, so many have an expectatio­n things will be safe.

“Unfortunat­ely, this particular group has no respect for older members of the community and that is unacceptab­le.”

A Garda spokesman said: “We responded to reports of a gathering of youths yesterday in Ringsend Park at approximat­ely 1.30pm.

“Gardai directed the youths to leave the area and all present complied. No arrests made.”
