TWO teenage girls have been charged over the murder of an Irishman who fell to his death while allegedly being robbed at knifepoint.

Cian English, 19, from Carlow but who was living in Brisbane, fell from a balcony at Surfers Paradise at around 3.15am on Saturday May 23.

He fell to his death when he was allegedly being robbed at knifepoint following a party where three men charged with his murder were high on drugs.

Australian media is reporting the two girls, aged 15 and 16, both face murder charges over the young man’s death due to what police describe as being “actively at the scene”.

Det Supt Brendan Smith said phone footage had led them to arrest the pair.

He added: “We have a 19-year-old male who has died tragically and we have people who don’t seem to care. The investigations this week have led to additional video on the phone to some of the offenders which clearly show there is no remorse.

“Some of the post-offence conduct is reprehensible.”

Police are alleging the group stole from an unconscious person at the scene.

Referring to the girls, Det Supt claimed: “It is clear they were actively encouraging. I think the community would expect people that encourage this sort of behaviour are held to task .”

Three men have already been charged with murder – Jason Ryan Knowles, 22, Hayden Paul Kratzmann, 20, and 18-year-old Lachlan Paul Soper-lagas.

They have been remanded in custody until August 4 when their cases will be mentioned in court.

Cian’s family told of their heartache over the death during his funeral on Wednesday.
