Two for Ireland in 1,000

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

SUCCESSFUL at Group 1 level as juveniles, Love and Millisle will carry Irish hopes in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

Love will be Aidan O’brien’s only runner in the fillies classic, with Ryan Moore in the saddle, following the withdrawal of both Peaceful and So Wonderful.

Jessica Harrington will chase a first English classic success with Millisle, winner of the six furlong Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket last autumn and the mount of Oisin Murphy.

Meanwhile, HRI has published its revised fixture list for the rest of 2020.

An extra 11 meetings are scheduled for September, with ten additional meetings pencilled-in for October.

The Flat turf season will be extended by a week, now ending at Naas on Saturday, November 7.

There will be no mixed meetings, with the possible exception of Listowel’s Harvest Festival in September, depending on Government guidance at the time. At the moment, the meeting comprises five National Hunt cards and two on the flat.

Having lost its 2020 festival and a two-day meeting planned for this weekend, Punchestown is set for a busy September, with five meetings.

And, significantly, flat racing will return to the County Kildare track on Thursday, September 3, subject to “satisfactory trial gallops over the proposed track layout.”

The fate of Laytown’s meeting on Tuesday, September 1, will depend on government guidance and protocols at the beach venue.
