Joseph looks to the Stars

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

THE Joseph O’brientrained King Of Stars looks the banker bet on today’s flat card in Bellewstown.

The 77-rated King Of Stars, placed twice as a juvenile, should take plenty of beating in the opening five-furlong maiden, having made an encouraging return to action at Tipperary recently, when a creditable fourth to Jungle Jane (subsequently pipped in the Rockingham at the Curragh) on his handicap debut.

Back in maiden company, Declan Mcdonogh’s mount sets a decent standard and should prove too strong for Thaleeq and Inflection Point.

Aloha Star’s experience and her third to Measure Of Magic at Tipperary, form boosted by runner-up Mooneista and Inner

Beauty, entitles her to the vote in the five-furlong two-year-old maiden.

It’s rare for Aidan O’brien to have two-year-old runners at this track. But Finest looks the one to beat in the first division of the median sires maiden while the market will probably give a clue to newcomer San Martino’s prospects in the second division.

In Sligo’s flat action, Ronan Whelan might double-up for Ger Lyons on Lilandra and Jan Wellens.

Beaten a half-length by Acquiescent on her debut in Fairyhouse, Lilandra appeals in the second division of the median auction maiden, in which Mark Fahey’s Clear Quartz might prove the chief threat.

Jan Wellens, expected to appreciate the step-up to a mile and a half, should confirm recent Roscommon form with Little Brother in the Strandhill Caravan Park Handicap.
