THE best way to speak the language of love is with a la-di-da accent.

Perfect, posh Received Pronunciation – as spoken by actress Helena Bonham Carter – has been voted sexiest in the world.

But the Cornish accent, as demonstrated by comic Jethro, is considered more ooh-arr than ooo-er and came last in 20th place.

The Irish accent slips in at a very respectable seventh place.

Popular New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s Kiwi twang was second. And sexy James Bond star Sean Connery helped the gentle Edinburgh burr into third place.

In the study 1,000 people listened to a sentence read in 20 accents. French, once considered very sexy, was only 19th.

The poll for dating site eharmony found one in eight pick their dates purely because of their accents. And a fifth were turned off if they didn’t like their date’s voice.

The top 20 is:

1 RP. 2 Kiwi. 3 Edinburgh. 4 Australian. 5 German. 6 Yorkshire. 7 Irish. 8 Glasgow. 9 Geordie. 10 American. 11 Essex. 12 Scouse. 13 London. 14 Manchester. 15 Italian. 16 Welsh. 17 Brummie. 18 Spanish. 19 French. 20 Cornish.

PAUL GASCOIGNE ON REGAN COMING OUT

ENGLAND legend Paul Gascoigne has spoken for the first time of his son coming out as bisexual.

The former footballer admitted he was unaware of dancer Regan’s sexuality until he gave an interview on ITV’S Lorraine show last year.

Gazza, 53, said: “He texted me the night before and I saw him on the TV talking about it.

“I told him, ‘It doesn’t matter what you do, son, I will support you 100%, you have to do what makes you happy’.

“I thought ‘bless him’. To go on TV and do that is hard.

“He is a professional dancer, he is a fit guy, and I am very proud of him. I also get on well with him and my stepchildren Bianca and Mason. I have a good relationship with them all.”

Gazza recalled how Regan stayed with him for several weeks in Newcastle early in his career while working in the city.

And they continue to keep in touch via phone calls and text.

Recalling his 1998 divorce from Regan’s mum Sheryl, 54, he added: “I didn’t get married to get divorced, it took me six years to get over that.

“Emotionally it was really tough, and I have been single ever since, single for more than 31 years.

“If I met the right person, then I would start a relationship, but I haven’t met the right person.” Gazza stressed that he was also coping with his addiction to alcohol during lockdown.

But he added: “You can never say never with the drink.

“You can socialise and have a few beers.

“I can have one if I want, but for me one is a waste of time.

“If I touch the drink, if I have four, it is not enough because I get bored.”

In the TV interview in November, Regan, 24, said: “I’ve never actually come out. I never made a point of coming out. I’ve just let it come out organically.

“When anyone asked me I would be honest and say, ‘Yeah I’ve dated both boys and girls’. I feel like we shouldn’t have to come out. It should be normal.”

Revealing the messages he sent to his dad, Regan added: “I texted him, ‘So sorry we haven’t had this chat I’ve just felt like I’ve never needed this chat with you. I know you’re going to be OK’. And he was.”

The musical theatre hopeful, half brother to Bianca, 33, and Mason, 30, appeared on The Greatest

Dancer in January 2019.
