Cadillac aiming to drive on

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

THE Jessica Harringtontrained Cadillac produced arguably the most impressive performance by an Irish two-year-old when scoring on his debut at Leopardstown five weeks ago.

And the Lope De Vega colt has an opportunity to build on that promise when he steps into stakes company in Leopardstown’s Japan Racing Association Tyros Stakes today.

Confidently ridden by Shane Foley on debut, Cadillac quickened in great style and sprinted clear to slam subsequent winner Ebeko by nine lengths.

That was a leg of the Foran-sponsored auction series, which might cause concerns over the strength of the form. But Cadillac was visually impressive.

And connections suggested they expected him to improve significantly from the run. So we should all take note.

Today, he faces a much tougher task, in a field which includes eight other previous winners – notably the highly-regarded Ger Lyons-trained course and distance scorer Masen and Donnacha O’brien’s Southern Cape, plus the likes of Ballydoyle colt Van Gogh, fourth to Masen on debut.
