SPECTATORS PLANNED FOR SPRINT CUP

- BY DAVID YATES

THE Sprint Cup at Haydock Park on September 5 has emerged as a candidate for the return of crowds to the racecourse.

Plans for 5,000 members to attend the final day of Glorious Goodwood had to be abandoned after Boris Johnson delayed the pilot scheme for at least a fortnight last Friday.

“A number of racecourses will be willing to put their hands up,” said Jockey Club north-west regional director Dickon White. “We want crowds to come back as soon as possible.”

JACKPOT

Aidan Coleman is targeting an October comeback after breaking his arm in a fall at Southwell a week ago.

The Irishman (left), favourite to succeed the Barry Geraghty, who retired from the saddle last month, as No 1 rider to JP Mcmanus, suffered a fractured humerus in a fall from the Neil Mulholland-trained Dieg Man at the Rolleston track.

“I’ve had plenty of contact with BHA doctor Jerry Hill and my specialist Geoff Graham, and they have told me to expect a 10-to-12- week break break before I can go back racing,” Coleman told his website.
